The first one that I have done is called NASA News and it pulls some news feeds down from NASA's website and makes it readable on the android. It needs some user interface work but overall works well. I added PHPBB forums for the moment because this way when I have free time I can add to them. Register there and start posting! Posted by Tim Quake Live Beta http://www.rmdir.org/index.php?page=newsmore&id=24 http://www.rmdir.org/index.php?page=newsmore&id=24 9:44 am February 26th, 2009 I was just checking out this new thing from the makers of Quake.... it’s called Quake Live. You install a browser plug-in and then you can play quake 3 (it looks the same, but its called quake live) right through your browser. It is completely free and it runs awesome. It is paid for by the advertisements that you see in game. The only problem you run into is because they just opened it to the public the line to get in is about an hour. This is going to change soon, because they want people playing to see the advertisements, which pays for everything. Expect the delays to disappear in the near future and check it out. I found that the easiest way was to go on to my Linux box and fix the partitions. Here are the steps. (For Ubuntu put sudo in front of the commands) fdisk -l (To list the drives and find out which one you want to modify) fdisk /dev/sdb (where /dev/sdb is your device) Now you will need to check the partitions and add them as necessary. If you need more extensive descriptions add a comment.p (to print out the partition table)d (delete existing partitions)n (create a new partition)p (primary partition1 (the first partition)Hit enter to select the first cylinderHit enter to select the maximum size Hit t to select the partition type, and then L to list the partition types and select one.Now hit w to write the table to the drive. Posted by Tim Windows 7 vs Ubuntu in Benchmarks http://www.rmdir.org/index.php?page=newsmore&id=16 http://www.rmdir.org/index.php?page=newsmore&id=16 12:38 pm February 5th, 2009 Over at TuxRadar I was reading an interesting article on how Ubuntu performs against the upcoming windows operating system Windows 7. All I can say is that I like both of them. Windows 7 is a great operating system and I actually have adopted the Beta on a few of my computers, dual booting of course. But I think that all around it is good and cannot wait for it. However, looking at Ubuntu you do see however that it still is pulling strong. Soon enough we will be seeing the ext4 file system pushing its way out to all the distributions soon, giving some good improvements. Check it out: Benchmarked: Ubuntu vs Vista vs Windows 7 Posted by Tim Site Maintenance http://www.rmdir.org/index.php?page=newsmore&id=15 http://www.rmdir.org/index.php?page=newsmore&id=15 9:27 am February 5th, 2009 I just completed my maintenance. The site should be fine now. I fixed the password reset. Added manual password change, and started working on the user messaging script. I need to finish that and write the forums and I will be pretty much ready to fix and add all the user abilities (Pictures, Avatar, etc) Posted by Tim Crunchbang Linux http://www.rmdir.org/index.php?page=newsmore&id=14 http://www.rmdir.org/index.php?page=newsmore&id=14 2:54 pm February 3rd, 2009 Just a note on a new Linux Distro that I think needs some recognition. CrunchBang Linux is an Ubuntu based distribution featuring the lightweight Openbox window manager and GTK+ applications. The distribution is developed from a minimal Ubuntu install and has been designed to offer a good balance of speed and functionality. CrunchBang Linux Main Page CrunchBang Linux Download Page It has some awesome modifications that make it run fast and strong. I have installed it on a few machines and I love the speed and look of it. I decided to host the files myself if anyone is looking to download it click the more button. I think I'm going to add the Linux commands page and then eventually make the forums. I now have WTFM8.com and 2white2nerdy.com linked here; they are both my sites that I have no time to finish at the moment. I think its better that they link to something than nothing. So I hope that you like the page and I will be working on it on and off for a long time. I was hoping to finish this site and get everyting up with the tutorials. I do plan on getting it done soon but like now I am away from the computer and am on my cell phone. I have some pre-made tutorials from college that I am going to add so when I do I will make a post. anyway I hope someone is reading this and I will start up again soon. Man its an amazing game. But anyway... I need to fix the positioning of the text on the tutorials page and I need to figure out the news pages system. Oh and by the way WTFM8.com is probably coming back but this time for bigger and better things... Think Red vs Blue with Wolfenstein ET. Should be neat and I will keep anyone who reads this posted with the news from there. I am going to have to make the comments system and fix up the users login area. I found a big bug in the news and tutorial system with the ability to post malicious code. I fixed it and it all works. It had to do with the ' or Apostrophe. It is all fixed and everything is working well now. Posted by Tim OpenNMS http://www.rmdir.org/index.php?page=tutorialsext&id=6 http://www.rmdir.org/index.php?page=tutorialsext&id=6 11:15 am April 23rd, 2008 For this project you will need to obtain CD one of Debian. You can install this on basically any platform because it is coded in Java. We chose Debian because we felt Linux might throw a few more challenges towards us. I installed the basic version of Debian with the Graphical user interface and then followed a guide for installing OpenNMS on Ubuntu. I did this because the guide for Debian was very basic and was missing much of the information that was required for this lab. Below you will find a modified version of the guide so that you can install OpenNMS on Debian 4.0. It is complete and will work without a hitch as long as you get the repositories and packages mentioned. That is the biggest thing. Posted by Tim WEP Cracking http://www.rmdir.org/index.php?page=tutorialsext&id=7 http://www.rmdir.org/index.php?page=tutorialsext&id=7 5:54 pm February 3rd, 2009 This project was something that I worked on in my senior year at Herkimer County Community College. This is a basic guide in cracking WEP. Oh and if you think of using this word for word for any of the projects at Herkimer, don’t worry they know about it. For this project you will need to obtain a copy of either Backtrack 2 or Backtrack 3. This is not a requirement but it is the easiest way and complete package set up to do WEP cracking and many other things. Posted by tim
